How to Make your Engagement Session Unique

ENgagements & Education

You're probably scrolling through Pinterest right now thinking, I want to do something different for my engagement session! And while traditional engagement photos are great, making your session curated to you is even BETTER! Here's why!
1. Chances are, you're already nervous about being in front of the the camera.  So why not choose a location where you're comfortable, in your comfort zone, and is special to YOU?
2. This is your chance to show the world who you are as a couple! So choose something that's sentimental to the two of you! Chances are, it's something unique and fun! So that takes care of that factor for you already!

Here's what I want you to ask yourself! Do you or your fiancé have any hobbies that you can incorporate into our session? (Ex. Playing guitar, sports, cooking, ceramics) What was your first date? What is something you enjoy doing together? What is my favorite thing to do on the weekend? (And if that something is to chill at home together, consider doing your session in-home) Is my occupation something interesting that we could incorporate? (Maybe one of you is a pilot? Do your session on a plane! Maybe one of you is a Fire Fighter! Do it at the fire station!)

Point is, Do something or go somewhere that is special to you!!

Shooting Grace and Thomas’ engagement session, I asked what they were doing after and they said “probably gonna go grab some dairy queen, it’s our favorite”!

I just knew I had to third wheel their date! So we headed to Dairy Queen and Grace told me that it was her first job and she remembers watching old couples get their ice cream and sit in the parking lot together and always thought it was so sweet!

Well, now she’s got her boo to grab ice cream with for life! How cute is thattttt? So let me know if y’all ever wanna bring me along on your dates from now on!

This is also extremely beneficial for you! I don't know about you, But as creatives, we crave something different and something unique all the time! So ask your clients questions!

When couples book me, I follow up with a questionnaire that asks all the above questions! Once they're answered some personal questions, I put together a Canva mood board with either my photos or photos from Pinterest for each idea I had based on their answers! But I also give them some traditional options to choose from, or even some traditional options we can combine with one of my creative ideas.

For example, say you're shooting in the desert, but there's a dairy queen nearby & the couple loves ice cream, go to dairy queen to end your shoot!
